In retrospect, I guess the gap to Ewan was actually to his first bike (it was saying 9 mins at one point) and he was never more than a couple of minutes behind

I don't think it's always the exact time.
Often it's GPS calculation.
For example he slows down 'cause of some crash and bunch continues and there you go.

Find it amazing how some on here are wanting them not to be pussies and race, then call them stupid for racing when they crash.

There should be some middle ground where they race at whatever speed each individual is capable of handling safely. I would say that's almost the definition of a race.
