It wouldn't have been a competition had Sagan not dropped his chain and then gotten that de-classification. Reminds me of the year when Matthews was gifted the jersey when Sagan was wrongfully thrown out, Kittel crashed out and Demare missed the time-limit :joycat:

This is silly. Botching sprints in various ways is all part of the game not some random unfair act of god.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

Yeah, it’s not going to be a standard bunch sprint with that finale and after yesterday’s climbing problems for both Ewan and Bennett, it’s entirely reasonable to think that they can be dealt with in the approach. If they are even still there after the cat 2.

I very much agree.

He won a lot more bike races than the punters in here, so maybe he does have a clue
He was a good rider, but I don't see how that makes him a good commentator. Chris Anker Sørensen was a worse rider, but he's obviously a much, much better commentator. Rolf often talks nonsense, but the main issue is his complete obsession with Danish riders and his expectations for them.

Who said anything about unfair?

If it’s not unfair what’s the relevance of saying that it’s the only reason there’s a contest? Not botching your sprints is a central skill for a sprinter. If you screw two of them up in two different ways, of course that costs you.

All respect to taking care of concussions, but the ES commentator is talking absolute nonsense here. The peloton should stop for however long it takes for the rider (in a situation like Bardet) to be medically evaluated? What?

I don't know about Danish commentators, but really being a 1st class athlete and a 1st class commentator are two very, very different things.

There are still many stages left. He will have to take points back here and there, when there is opportunity to do so. Like the sprint we just saw. He will still have to manage himself and use his team right. Otherwise he might run himself and his team into the ground. Like going from 160km far out...

Dude, you’re just being a hater now :D

He was a true winner, including of 2 monuments, and spent most his career as a race contender, in most types of terrains.

He is the most winning Danish rider in history.

The notion that he doesn’t know how to win bike races is ridiculous.

Was it by any chance Rob Hatch?

Because it is true. By your own admission, he's in it cause Sagan screwed up. Not Bennets fault and both organizers and viewers are probably happy that it's a battle for green this year so no issue with me. If you have another opinion, that's fine, not a big deal. A win's a win and you don't get to choose your competition. I'm done with this.

I'm well aware of his accomplishments as a rider, but again, how does that make him a good commentator?

And a hater? How and why should I hate the guy when I've never met him? I'm just questioning his abilities as a commentator, which sometimes isn't top notch. That's it. There's no reason for you to take that personal.

But I'm sure Maradona does not make a great football commentator. Lothar Matthäus, one of my favourite football players ever, WC and ballon d'or winner, failed as a coach in all his stations and just generally talks **, more than most fans. You would think they know their stuff. But sometimes they just don't.

Would be great if that was possible, wouldn't it?
Well... it isn't!
