I just figured it out also. Of course Porte is going great so far. This Tour is like TDU for him. He just done the same preparation during the break leading up to this like he usually does during the off-season. It is like the beginning of the season where he usually is good.

The green jersey competition this year has been the most unexpectedly great aspect of the past few years. A competition that typically only concerns the final 500m of a stage has now led to entire stages being raced hard. Stage 7 was one of the best stages in recent years. Looking at today's stage, it will most likely come down to Paris.

He was almost never the strongest, and was generally considered a “smart” rider in his day, who often won by outfoxing other riders.

That’s why I find it absurd, that he is tactically inept.
I agree with that, but even more so he should then know that Schachmann and Sagan won't complete their mission by brute force today.

The implication was he was clueless tactically.....
He is obviously not clueless, so Hugo's comment is a vast exaggeration. But it is also true that Rolf is occasionally a dreamer more than a realist, when he commentates. He is very passionate, you can tell, which is in my opinion a great feature that not many of the other Danish commentators have.

And by the way, Rolf was a great tactician on the bike. Just ask Rominger :)

I fully agree, and it’s one of the reasons I appreciate him, I like dreamers
