Amazing stuff by Pogacar. His ability to put in such performances so late on in GTs is amazing. That's the kind of strength that could make him the genuine successor to Froome, dominating GTs for a generation. Imagine if he had a decent team!

Updated list of Roglic performances in third week Grand Tour ITT:

  • Tour 2017, stage 20: 14th, lost time to Froome, Contador and Uran among others.
  • Tour 2018, stage 20: 8th, lost more than a minute to Dumoulin and Froome.
  • Giro 2019, stage 21: 10th, lost time to Nibali among others.
  • Tour 2020, stage 20: 5th, lost almost 2 minutes to Pogacar (and likely the Tour).

this was probably the best TT of the 4 though, he just ran into a direct opponent who was flying, and of course the stakes were the highest

Well deserved. Not feeling bad for JV and Roglic at all. Should be a lesson for future GTs. Never celebrate to early, never gift time to opponents, always take time when you can.
It's quite possible that roglic took all the time he could. I kept waiting for him to unleash a huge ride and he never really did.

Pogs recovery is off the charts

Rog is incredibly respectful

This tour went from depressingly predictable to legendary in a day.

May this serve as a reminder to people that when you're strong there is nothing wrong with actually hurting your opponents.

Without "medical" help, younger riders always gonna have better recovery... In the past, it was always "clouded" by the **** use;)

Here's the thing... we argued about whether it was valid to criticise the safe, defensive riding earlier in the race, but we have incontrovertible evidence that they should have taken more time when it was available. I said that this would end up like Andy Schleck in the 2011 Pyrenées and I was proven correct. They chose not to ride hard on stage 6. Chose to gift Pogačar time on stage 8 because they were more concerned about Quintana and Bernal. Chose to ride stage 15 at a suboptimal tempo to keep Sepp Kuss from being expended. Primož Roglič should have won the Tour de France. Primož Roglič and his team have controlled this race from start to finish, they rode like the maillot jaune team when Yates had it and they rode ever since then literally with it. Primož Roglič will replay this moment in his head over and over until the day he dies, but nothing should be taken away from him and mountains should not be made of molehills. He rode well today. He finished top 5 on the stage. But decisions made two weeks ago and last weekend in his team car have cost him what should have been his career's crowning moment. He has every right to feel completely broken. And hopefully in time he can look back on this race and realise he didn't blow up, and this ride, though the one he will likely forever be remembered for, is still a great one.

Primož Roglič didn't lose the race today, Tadej Pogačar won the race today.

When you consider that Pogacar won after losing that time due to the crosswinds, with a team much weaker than Jumbo, he is certainly a worthy winner. He was the best overall at this Tour.
Hoping an angry Wout will take the Champs stage tomorrow!
