He can only blame his team (he won't). Isn't Lotto-Soudal build around him??
He was actually quite well positioned 1 km or so before the finish, with his lead-out man right in front of him. I'm guessing he wanted to repeat the trick from stage 3 and come to the front late, but his legs may have been sapped this time because of the more demanding run in.

So... the picture on social media with Alaphilippe and Bennett in their respective jerseys is just Alaphilippe keeping his jersey from today on?

It's a really stupid moment from Quickstep, but to take the yellow jersey off Ala because he took a bottle seems ridiculous.
Technically the right decision, but come on.

So much for Ala challenging Cancellara's record for most career yellow jerseys by a non-winner.

Yates in yellow, I bet Mitchelton had not expected that.

Guess we'll see a pretty aggressive Alaphilippe tomorrow ;)
Alaphilippe going balls out to get the jersey back would be pretty epic. Realistically though he should probably just focus on trying to get the stage win as that alone will be difficult enough.

Then go for yellow on the Peyresourde descent ;)

Van Avermaet's biggest strength has always been his racing instinct though. That's what won him most of his biggest wins. I don't really think there is a single physical aspect right now where I would rate GVA higher than current WVA.
Sprint? WVA
Time Trial? WVA
climbing? WVA
explosiveness? WVA
You are putting words in my mouth. I never said that the current version of GVA is Better than WVA. I just said that we have previously seen examples of riders who can do the same things or who have the same versatility. Maybe GVA is not the best example here, since his skillset has always been more skewed towards endurance than sprinting.
