On the days you expect things to happen; not much happens.
On the days you expect nothing to happen, things happen.
I suspect once they get somewhere more protected it'll fizzle out a bit, but still, then you have two things that would come from that even if it all came back together:
- the sprinters and their teams who had been caught out would have to work so hard to get back on that it would impact their leadouts and sprint ability, creating a more unpredictable final few kilometres either from encouraging late attackers or just a less controlled lead-in;
- the teams like Bora who did make the move now know who is vulnerable, and if we do have wind late in the stage they know what they are likely to be able to do if they do raise the tempo again.
If it doesn't come back together, Bora win out. If it does, Bora still have an advantage for later. This is why you test out your opponents' legs
