The team that was called Cannondale back then, was what used to be Liquigas. Sagan left to ride for Tinkoff, and Cannondale merged with Garmin to form what is now EF.

I don't think that was the only time Sagan's teams did that. They certainly did it on a couple of occasions in the Tour of California, but I think they got caught out a couple of times as well. Taylor Phinney got he jump on them and stole a stage once.

Thanks for correcting me, you are of course right (in fairness, the commentators didn't say they used to be called Cannondale, that was all me :D )

Is there any reason for group 2 not to fall back to group 3? Except pride?
I thought they might have it down as that group 3 might miss the time cut, and people like Ewan and Bol are in it, meaning fewer threats in sprints in coming stages. If they drop back and form one large gruppetto they'll inevitably be allowed to stay in. At this point it's less likely that that will be a factor, but it's fairly reasonable thinking.
