Basques tend to fall into two categories, thanks to the very rainy and very mountainous part of the country they cut their teeth on. They're either top level descenders or the absolute dirt worst. The all-terrain vehicle people like Fraile, Izagirre, Castroviejo, they're good downhill, but the wispy climbers tend to be absolute trainwrecks.Castroviejo is a really stylish rider IMO, looking good descending.

Or, you can crash so often because of those roads that you become petrified and nervous. Also worth noting is some of the guys like the Izagirre brothers also grew up doing cyclocross in the muddy fields of Euskadi too.I get you become a top level descender by growing up in such terrain...... I don't really get the opposite....... wouldn't even the worst improve slightly, by doing it a lot?![]()
