Why would Colbrelli and Matthews help Cavendish to a win and securing the green jersey?

Bahrain and and BEX will drop Cavendish before the intermediate and a big break will sail home to the win as DQS can't reel them in alone.

I just spent a few minutes doing the Col de Couz, Col de la Placette (intermediate) and the climb before Rochefort-Samson on Google Streetview. Cavendish shouldn't be helplessly behind at the intermediate, they are straight main roads. The third isn't too bad either.

If it's a bunch sprint and Cavendish isn't there, the green jersey will be a difficult task.

Today just headwind all the stage, at 18 Km/h, medium, so the start at 51 Km /h for the 2 riders is meritable, although is in a protected area.

With that wind very difficult for a break, and very difficult for echelons...Just at the end, maybe the previous 5 Km vbefore the entrance to valence,..will be a good condition for echelons,. but not too much wind and quite protected and very at the end, so no big problem.

There are some narrows road on the last part with lon false flat and some small slopes where someone into de peloton could jump to avoid an sprit, but really difficul, or maybe ineos play for any cuts that affect Pogacar, but really difficul as well with this wind.

Anyway, we will see.

For the intermediate points, yes. And that's all they'll do. But if they wanted him to have a bit heavier legs later on, they might as well start early. Now I don't think we'll see any better break today, just a boring sprint stage.

I think today it was really optimistic to expect anything else. Cav's also certainly not unbeatable in the finale even in a soft stage.
