Head on his celebration looked brave. Top down it looked even braver, but he knows what he's doing. You could see the hard stage had taken a bit of his sprint away but he's not going to be beaten if he's leadout like that.

Oh yeah, super pictures, "voilà!", but there's zero chance he'd lose a stage because of a dumb celebration imo. Pure confidence.

He's almost back to his old self (I think he does still miss just a little bit of an afterburner), and when he's good, he just delivers.

Absolutely perfect leadout.

I feel like Cavendish just did what he had to win it in the end. From the images he looks pretty fresh crossing the finish line and after. Others look more tired.

With that team he doesnt have to fight for position. Doesnt have to spend any extra in the wind. Just keep his speed in the last 200 metres. The others had no chance on passing him.

Good form and great team effort.

True but Cav is outperforming most people's expectations.
Amazing how much better riders get when they're not present. The lack of any consistent dominant winner in the Cav wilderness years doesn't suggest that was a great sprinting field, just a very even one - i.e. with the top end of the bell curve missing.

True, but I think people are getting carried away. He's beating the likes of Phillipsen, a broken Sagan and WVA that is not close to be fully fit, and he has a lead out so good that his lead out man is finishing 6th after sitting up. Seems a pretty perfect storm of the best sprinters not being here and the ones that are are either better hilly guys like Colbrelli or Matthews, way off form or just a bit crap.

When the Tour last finished here, the sprint field was similarly depleted and Sagan took the win, now he couldn't manage more than eighth. Total are fools for taking him and his entourage.

After Cavendish's 2nd stage win the fairy tale was over and all the teams were back at work trying to figure out how to beat him.

They tried but Quick-Step was too good and so was Cavendish.

Matthews and Colbrelli (for all his effort) are trying to win the green jersey the Sagan way, forgetting that Sagan could actually sprint.

Eddy Merckx is training for his comeback as we speak.

Colbrelli lost both power and leadout men by having to make it back to the front though, but 0 points here is definitely a disaster for him, when we know he's currently faster than Matthews head-to-head.

Not saying he's been looking great, but he had an issue again (touched wheels?) and looked like he almost crashed.

You win against who’s there; just like the stage finishes where the line is not a meter after. Cav had pretty much every other sprinter vying for his wheel and he out kicked them all.

DQS smashed that out the park. Their lead out started so far out. Cav didn’t have to do any “rubbing is racing” bollocks; just put his nose in the wind and get it over the line.

What I loved to see is Cav going around thanking all the guys in the team afterwards. Each win is theirs too. Loving the Wolfpack.

Every top sprinter of that period is currently missing from this race. Cavendish is coming off the best leadout in the sport and crushing rivals from proconti teams. I love the guy, he’s the best of all time, I’m loving this comeback. But this is a field that is as weak or worse than when he was clubbing Tyler Farrar like a baby seal.
