This is one of my favorite stage designs of this year. The foothills of the Pyrenees aren't too tough or too high, so ideal for riders who are better in the middle mountains.

For those who were expected to win a stage, time is running: Nibali, Yates, Fuglsang, Mollema... Some of them might join the break again today, but we've seen them run into riders who are in better shape, like Teuns and Mohoric.

For Yates to make the break today, he'll have to be an invisible ninja ;)

I only learned yesterday that Naesan is in this race, so I'm picking him for the win. He's been saving his legs for today, surely.

I think Nibali will wait for tomorrow. The next three stages are all for the break, but suit riders differently. But it could be that most would try all three stages, as there's no guarantee one hits the right break. Both today and tomorrow should be good prep for the OGRR (even if one of the two stages should have been longer then).

If anyone designed a mountain stage in this area, feel free to post. Just to see the possibilities .
Same first 120 km as today and same finish line, showing how far Port de Pailhères would be from the end:

That looks like it’d be a good stage. A bit like how Lombardia has 2 smaller climbs after the big selection on Sormano.

This looks so perfect for Ala. I'm so gutted he's going to be too tired to win it. Anyway, I'm sure he's going to try.

Fuglsang, Valverde, who seems to get better, Konrad, Higuita, if he's not too hurt, will probably try as well. This could become epic if the situation goes out of hand, because everyone wants to be in the break and there aren't that many teams left who have a good placing to protect. Or maybe we will end up with a random, rather weak group because nobody else is let go.

Maybe Pogacar and Carapaz will end up in the break.
(Remember "improbable not = impossible)

Today at least we will find out if some riders are simply too hurt and tired to try anything this Tour or if they saved their legs for one day of glory.

Anyway, no way this is not going to the break.

I like this stage a lot but ultimately it's very much going to be a riders make the race day.

You could genuinely see surprise attempts and attacks from some people in GC - I think it's quite a nice day for Astana and Lutsenko for instance to try something that catches a few people sleeping.

The win will almost certainly go to the break but there should be some extremely strong riders in that and the fact so many will want to be is definitely going to create an interesting dynamic on the road
