It's not a random top ten contender here but someone who has dropped the yellow jersey. That Kruiswijk is ahead sucks in particular, a guy who has literally never won anything has reinvented himself as a supersonic Thomas de Gendt attacker yesterday and today. Also they are not just abandoning Jonas, also Teunissen who has to work twice as hard.
Belgian commentators think Jumbo is going to try with Kuss or Kruiswijk to win the stage as Wout seems to go back and forth (with food and such)

Someone out of Kuss and Kruijswjik should have stayed with Vingegaard at least. Not send both with WVA.

I guess he is the star of the team and with a good chance to go for KOM and in good form. He should be doing what he does.

It is not an easy thing to manage. With Roglic out, WVA has complete freedom to go for what he wants. While Vingegaard is trying to make the best result he can. Obviously, it would have been better to have the whole team backing him but that would also be putting all your eggs in one basket. He hasnt reached that status yet, to be the captain with Roglic out. Everyone riding for him.

He still gotta prove himself and hold on for 3 weeks before getting full support. I mean if Vingegaard cracks in the last week and drop 10 minutes then it would be pretty good to have won a couple of stages, with a chance to win the KOM with Van Aert.

Maybe he cracks, but I think on Ventoux, he showed he might be worth fighting for...just my opinion...obviously not Zeeman's...

Yeah, but what if he has a mechanical or something... needs to drop back... is Teunissen the one to bring him back alone?
He's in the peloton so he'll have a team car behind him and neutral service too. I think they are racing for stage wins, not GC, Vingegaard has simply ended up high on GC by going for the stage, rather than any 3 week objective/strategy perhaps. He'll have riders drop back to him from Wout anyway to help if really needed.

I'm amazed that no one's tried anything that might cause UAE to even consider doing something other than soft pedalling. I guess the fact that 7 or 8 riders are all within striking distance of the podium is making them gun shy.

Or not, Ineos and Movistar are setting up another tactical masterclass.

Tough to believe Van Aert's gonna chase dots all the way through the Pyrenees but watching him sprinting to the lines today...
Substitution for the Green possibly.

I think Vingegaard aint in the position to get the whole team to ride for him. It is only his second GT and his first time being in this position. He has been given the go to ride his own race and make the best result. He should be happy with that. If he does well and doesnt crack, then he will get more opportunities to be the captain in races in the future.

I would honestly find it hilarious. But hey this one guy on eurosport said it was the hardest stage of the Tour and he gets paid for his opinion, he must be right.
That.’s so weird how they rate this stage—one of the preview articles made a similar “hardest” stage assertion. Maybe they’re just try to drum up interest for a Sunday broadcast that isn’t all that exciting (at least not yet).

Seeing Wout fighting for the polka dot jersey is hilarious but he has a realistic chance of winning it actually.
However I don't think that will be the best olympic preparation
