Recap of the front group:

Mike Teunissen (Jumbo-Visma)
Julien Bernard, Jasper Stuvyen, Edward Theuns (Trek-Segafredo)
Davide Ballerini (DQS)
Nils Politt (Bora-Hansgrohe)
Christophe Laporte (Cofidis)
Silvan Dillier (Alpecin-Fenix)
Michael Valgren, Jonas Rutsch (EF Education-Nippo)
Elie Gesbert (Arkea-Samsic)
Casper Pedersen (DSM)
Brent Van Moer (Lotto-Soudal)
Ion Izagirre (Astana)
Simon Clarke, Max Walscheid (Qhubeka-NextHash)
Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies)
Franck Bonnamour (B&B-KTM)
Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché-Wanty Gobert)
Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious)

Trek has looked really good so far, Politt now knows how to finish this off, several other candidates for a victory in the group.

The peloton is now losing time at a much quicker rate, this is pretty much over -- well done, breakaway.

I really like how Trek has approached this Tour.

Can anyone give me a breakdown on why Quickstep and Alpecin let this breakaway succeed?

It was held below 1 minute for ages without Quickstep doing much up front, I go make a cup of tea, come back and it's six minutes and the peloton, including entire quickstep team, has sat up. Wtf?

Even assuming they had to do it on their own couldn't quickstep have bridged 50 seconds with line of sight like that? And why did they let it get away in the first place? Is there something wrong with Cavendish and Van Der Poel?
