"these courses are too unsafe"

cavendish cuts over three bike widths in the sprint and almost takes out 3 riders

"wow what a hero, this guy is unbelievable. a great day for cycling"

Yeah, arguably... I did cringe a bit. Hope the result stands.

Glad I'm not the only one who saw that. I mean, the rule is about deviating from your line, and Cav literally came back across the centerline of the road and forced Philipsen and Merlier to stop pedaling.

He had to get in front of them to do it, and he was clearly the fastest, but he did do it.

Nah, Merlier was clearly leading out Philipsen again. Other way around and I think Merlier wins. He's faster and a better finisher.

It's quite obvious.

they are using the fastest sprinter in this peloton as a leadout

Yeah, I didn't want to say it first, but it looked like not the cleanest sprint from him even in the live shot to me...

with all the talk of unsafe finishes and tight routes causing crashes, there is no way the commissaires will want more bad press and relegate him for that

Yup, without Ewan and Bennett, Merlier is probably the fastest bunch sprinter around (bar maybe an on form Demare or Ackerman). Just doesn't make much sense.

Alpecin are just idiots again. Merlier is faster, just go with him

Your totally right, just as in Turkey, Cavendish is showing to be faster than Philipsen. But I guess that for Alpecin the Tour is already a great success so they don't care much.

I don't think Merlier ever stopped sprinting until he was forced to by Cav coming across him

They want to flex with 3 different stage winners probably.
