I understand the protests, and I generally support them and agree with direct action even as long as it stays non-violent, but at a bicycle race, really? I would guess there are few sports whose fans are generally more open to protecting the environment than cycling.
Have you seen the length of the caravan convey at GCs?

Can we stop the calls for violence?

No violence was acted.
The young people were gentled helped off the route.
After all.. France takes good care confused people, that have wandered on the road, glued their hands to the road and then stand passive.

It's unrelated to the damage they do (and to whom), it's all about the publicity.
