no idea how Schultz managed to ride dumb enough to lose this, as by far the strongest rider. First had to close half a minute alone as he missed the selection and ended up behind with EBH and Clarke, and then, when an easy solo win was just one attack away, waited for everyone to come back, so that he can be beaten in a sprint.

Schultz was the strongest rider - I have no issue with him surfing the wheels for as long as possible and then bridging to the front group - But he needed to attack with 1km to go and ride into the distance - It was unlikely he would be caught - Schultz has a decent sprint, so he probably thought he could put away Jorgensen and Sanchez but he got unlucky that Cort came from nowhere.

He has 11 GT stages, 5 in the Tour. He mostly doesn’t finish GTs, but he has averaged over a stage per participation. They wouldn’t care about him DNFing two GTs this year if he’d had his average sprint form.

The problem for Lotto is that most of his season is built around performing at GTs, which he can't do without a decent leadout, primarily De Buyst. Surely if he did a few more one day races instead, he'd be a better asset for the team in terms of the race for points?

The yellow jersey is obligated to give 1 hour (i think) interviews every day after the race. That is àfter and om top of the podium ceremony. That means he arrives later at the hotel, he gets less rest etc.

I agree, I don't like it either, definitely with him also focussing on a WC he can't win. Let's not forget he was going to ride MSR, De Panne and G-W tho but then he got sick (but him not riding Frankfurt for example is just dumb). Well it's just De Buyst, he never had a super leadout because he didn't need it at all.

I think Pog was stalling as long as possible, until the moment he knew he was going to keep yellow. At that moment he tried to grab some extra seconds.
