Cobbles are fun. Time trials are not.

I disagree, a good time trial can be quite fun, it just depends on two crucial things:
a) parcours (no flat short thingys, a good rolling decent sized effort where finding balance and pace is important)
b) distribution of TT specialists vs. GC contenders
- for example, last year's first TT was interesting to watch, a nice fight in the end and suspense to see if MVdP would maintain the yellow. The last one was very boring as everything was decided. If all contenders go out first and we don't see any change in the best times until the end yes, it can be quite dull.

Are people being serious here? Majka has really tested positive but is being allowed to continue? What?
That's what the change of the UCI protocol right before the Tour was about. How have you managed to miss all the talk about it for the past two weeks? ;)

If there's a positive test, a medical panel (team doctor, race doctor, covid coordinator) decides if the rider is out or not, a.o. based on the viral load. In Guillaume Martin's case they decided he is out, while Majka was allowed to continue now.

I predict a surprise win for Verona if a break happens.

If not.. I predict either Pogimon :smilingimp: to win by 2 meters infront of someone or Wout van Aert going supernova.

Albeit.. deep down, if its my heart that speaks, I hope Fuglsang wins. he looks so sad and only have stage wins to go for now.

It was said in advance that this is a thing that can occur

That’s insane. A low viral load indicates either that someone is recovering from or is entering into the likely acute phase. Anyone testing positive for the first time at this point is on the way up, not down. Majka is presumably just entering into a contagious period. And it is very clear at this point that very vigorous exercise and an active Covid infection are an unwise combination.

if you let teams and riders take risks with their own health and those of others to perform at the Tour, they will do so. There should be an inflexible ban on them doing so.

I agree with you, but scientifically it's probably not crazy. I know that at the height of one of the waves even hospital personell was allowed to continue working in Austria with a low enough viral load even after testing positive.

those sort of decisions in most places were about stopping the health service from collapsing under the weight of sick absences during a period of emergency. that’s quite a bit different from making the same kind of exceptions to allow a dude to be a domestique in a bike race.

So, you're saying the reason Jungels got away Sunday was because he was entering into a contagious period, and the others wanted to social distance from him?
