I don't get the impression he's giving it the full beans on this descent. Helping the others by showing a good line to follow as well?

They had to close gaps and pedal after each corner, like someone else pointed out.

Good for Pidcock to tire the others out and stay clear of any crash being behind someone not as skilled as he is, but bad if they should now work together on the flat to maintain a decent gap going into the climb. They spent energy "chasing" Pidcock.

How much does the break need at the bottom? Surely 6 mins is enough?

I don't think so. Less than 20 riders finished within 6 mins of Thomas in 2018 and that was a pretty tame edition. This hasn't been a tame break effort and we can bet the GC effort will be strong in the finale.

Anyway, meeting time for me so probably won't be able to enjoy the finale with you all :(
