Isn’t the sponsors main goal advertising, exposure and TV time? I’m pretty sure that’s the case and for that reason QS dropped the ball by not including Cav. He would have gotten Quick Step 20X’s the coverage of Jacobsen even if Jaco is the better sprinter right now. I know it might not be a popular opinion but I want Cav to have the record on his own! I hope he gets on a team capable of a good lead out and he gets #35 next year and retires. He’s the best sprinter I’ve seen in my life. In his prime the power was unmatched by anyone.

The QS director should be fired!

Cav was on Armstrong's podcast and talked about not being selected. He said his numbers might not have been on par with some other sprinters, but there's a lot more to winning stages than just numbers.

I think he is right. For example, on Stage 18 at Cahors that Laporte won, Cav said that should have been a bunch sprint. The sprinter teams have one job and they did not do it. You get the feeling if the was there, he would have diagnosed the plan by Jumbo to launch Laporte.

At the same time, I'm not sure all the guile and experience allow Cav to keep up with the power of Phillipsen.

No use. Merckx would just steal it the next year.

Pog is such a champ. All heart. He will be remembered for how he animated the race and not giving up. Chapeau. I believe he will be back stronger and his race iq increased.
Now i'm confused. Did he die or not?

QS sponsors are Belgian and also from a specific part of Belgium - Having Cavendish at the TDF does nothing for the sponsor's brand.

Well done Jonas..
Brilliant & spectacular TourdeFrance and impressive to see Jonas drop Pogacar the 3 times, he tried in 2022 -.11, 18, 20..

we saw signs in 2021 of Jonas GC form in TdF2021..though he wasn't a GC-contender in TdF21 but intended as a helper for captain Roglic as I recall - that sadly dropped it all on the first mountain stage (rainy stage8) and lost 35 min and wouldn't start for stage9. and Jonas also dropped all his time on that first mountain stage with also a crash. and were 5 minutes after Pogacar after stage8.
After stage 21 - he was 5.20 minutes... so not a lot (+20sec) he lost throughout the remaining 2021 tour.. mainly the 2x10sec bonus seconds that Pogacar took at stage17, and 18, where Jonas came in as second - as Pogacar is definitely more explosive than Jonas Vingegaard.

Jonas needs to drop Pogacar on climbs as otherwise, he will lose at the finish line to Pogacar - that can mustard that explosive sprint finish.
Great for the entertainment' to see somebody being able to challenge Pogacar, as Pogacar is a blast to watch when he is trying everything under the sun - looking for time gains.
Jonas and Pogacar's fight was the highlight for me, in this Tour de France.

Thanks, I didn’t know that. However, isn’t QS a gigantic flooring manufacturer in all of Europe? I thought their products are sold all over. Maybe I’m wrong?

What a great Tour de France. Great parcours. Great champion. Appreciate this forum as well. It's made the race much more enjoyable.

Great route you say. And I thoroughly agree with you.
You should have seen the comments here many months ago when the Tour route was announced. There was so much dismay and criticism of the Tour route as usual. The word 'gimmick' cropped up a lot.
I believed the riders make the route and the platforms are always there to attack. Mountain stages in the Tour always provide platforms to attack. The difference this year is that we had 'champion' riders in Vingegaard and Pogacar who attacked and took risks on the platform provided to them.
Well done ASO on designing so many interesting stages this year! Chapeau when it's due!

Congratulations to Jasper Philipsen for winning the stage.

Congratulations to Jonas Vingegaard for winning this above the average Tour edition and for winning polka dot jersey. Congratulations to Wout van Aert for winning green jersey and to Tadej Pogačar for winning white jersey.

Chapeau!

I think Pedersen was feeling quite hot after the stage...

So what's up with the 3 km rule?
Otherwise Pogacar took more time from Jonas in the Champs-Élysées than any other mountain stage!!!

He (Jonas) wasn't behind because of a crash/mechanical, but just because he sat up and went easy over the line.

Weird to think Ineos dominated cycling not too long ago.
Not really. Sport is thankfully cyclical. Just look at football. Yes, the winner is usually found among the richer teams, but the biggest budget clearly doesn't always guarantee success.
And SKY/INEOS certainly never dominated the Classics or one-day races.
12 months ago I couldn't see anyone beating Pog over the next 5 or so years at the very least.
