As a cycling fan, I know that the next few years will be easier for me if I just relent and become a full-blown Pogi fan. Funny, I started out really liking this young guy when he broke through with his Vuelta podium in 2019 . . . and the way he rode the mountain stages of the 2020 TDF was fantastic. Then came the H-bomb explosion on the PDBF time trial to unseat Primoz, and my allegiances were discombobulated. But now, I think I am going to drink the Pog Koolaid . . . it will be easier . . . just sit back and admire generational excellence.

Good thing that Jumbo was making Pogi nervous early on. This outcome was waiting to happen

Also: Fuglsang seems to be a somewhat legit GC rider this year (at least until now). Bad for Bora who believe in a Vlasov Podium and EF who fight against Israel in the relegation battle.

sadly the break was doomed from the start. I hope we at least see a break go all the way tomorrow, because Pogacar will smoke them all in the end on the gravel and the last steep metres. So there will be at least some good watching we need a break fighting for the win (and yellow).

Pinot and O'conner lost time - so I think there you have it :)

I'm sure there'll be someone come along. Maybe Remco improves a lot at climbing, or we get a Tour with no little mountains and lots of TTs so Remco and Wout have a shot.

I would not have expected the UAE team so bad in this Tour, by the way. It's a bit mindboggling.
Yeah but not so bad as Jumbo. At least UAE doesn't give false expectations on Pogacar and fans alike.

Matthews a bit unlucky there. He saw Pogacar go but got caught behind slower riders. Don't know what to make of the yellow jersey's ride...........very odd.

O'Connor lost another 2:37 today.

Nice finish for Enric Mas. He was caught out by the Vlasov crash and managed to finish 11th in the same time as the other GC guys. At one point he jumped over from the group that was caught out and rode himself back to the front group.

Every TdF winner (Pog namely) should face a handicap the next year: he gets transferred to Jumbo Visma & forced to ride the TdF in their team.

It's the only way to give everyone else a head start.

It was inevitable. Jumbo's team tactics were always going to be a moot point against this year's Pog. Green jersey, stage wins, and GC runner-up are still very possible for Jumbo.

He'll be up 2 mins by now on everyone. When are you running out of salt?

With enemies like Jumbo, Poggy doesn't need any teammates.

First Jumbo sends his strongest riders, a sure thing for top 3 in a sprint like this, on the early break not only making sure he doesn't win the stage but also that he wastes huge amount of energy.
Then Benooit starts drilling it on the final climbs making sure all fast finishers are done for leaving virtually no competition for Pogacar.
Jumbo finishes it off nicely by having roglic doing a perfect lead out for Poggy in the final 400 meter.

To screw up a stage in this way, it's almost a form of art if you ask me.
Shall I say it? RABOFAIL.

Ow, and a honorable mention to Alpacin for towing the pack all day instead of leaving it all to UAE only to have MVP dropping like a stone and Philipsen overestimating his chances of surviving climbs (again).

One things fore sure: Poggy is the new Merckx, he is the strongest, but the other teams really aren't making it hard for him.

Missed almost all of this stage and just trying to catch up. Some Jumbo question marks for sure:
  • Why did Wout do that? He should still be in yellow and likely would have won the stage if he'd just stayed in the peloton. Very strange.
  • Roglic I guess thought he could win the stage and salvage the Tour maybe? If so, he went way too early
  • Glad to see Roglic riding strong though despite the bad crash yesterday

For this kind of finish it was a great performance by Quintana, almost able to hold off Pidcock.
If his recovery holds up things could get interesting in the high mountains.
Yes, even when in good form he will usually drop a few seconds on a power-climb finish like this. Hopefully he goes on the attack on PTBF.

I don't know how to feel about this stage. Congratulate Wout for trying to go solo or blame him cause it would have been an excellent chance to win the stage by not going solo. This was a perfect finish for him.

lol. Pog attacked already at the top of the previous climb. And gapped everyone with his acceleration. This is not close at all.
It didn't look like he got any gap. That's probably why he stopped riding after looking back. When it changed to the heli view there was someone not just in his wheel but almost next to him.
