I'm not really sure what Van Aert is doing. Surely they won't let him into the break, right?

Why not?

Mathieu did go in the break on stage 7 last year (that was brute force more than anything) and Van Avermaet did it both of the times he had stints in yellow.

But who has the firepower and the will to sacrifice the whole team to reel him back in?

(edit: in the case it would last, but he's back in the peloton)
Ineos maybe. UAE needs some other team to help for sure

Sounds like very good racing so far, with many strong riders wanting a piece of the breakaway action. Not looking good for the 3 current escapes.

If you watch the race on France TV website, you can choose which of the five camera motos you want to follow. It's great if the producers are showing the break and you want to see what's going on in the peloton.

It is, however, in French.
