Could've been 10 seconds just as easily.

Like they're straight up signaling that when Van Aerts and Vingegaards/Roglic' interests are at odds with each other they literally go for the inferior goal.
When they are at odds, you weight up how much. Stage win and 50 points were worth far more than 4 seconds. Easy trade.

Jumbo already gifted 14 seconds to Pogi. Vingegaard will loose around 30 seconds at least in the TT so he needs to gain more than a minute in the mountains. Hard task

Either Vingegaard will actually show to be strongest in the Alps. Then a few seconds won't matter in Alpe d'Huez etc. Or he won't, then Jumbo won't win the Tour and will be quite happy Wout won green and a few stages. Also I can't believe people still don't feel it's adequate to give Wout these chances, when he a) delivers and b) is the reason Vingegaard is still so close in GC after the cobbles. Apart from Pogacar van Aert has been the dominant rider of this Tour so far, and you want to make him a pure helper.

After decades of the strongest teams (USPS, Sky, Ineos) being extremely calculating, I don't really mind of possibly the strongest team in the race are going for perhaps more than they can manage. My only hope is that they dare to risk their second place in an attempt to win. Also, the Covid sword is hanging above everyone, so all successes are important.

And it's quite apparent that Jumbo is quite happy with what he does, otherwise they wouldn't have raced the way they did today.

If you want to run your team into the ground like DSM, that sounds like an absolutely perfect idea.

Honestly, GC Jumbo got screwed today. I guess if you think WvA is the only person who matters in the whole universe, sure, but from a Vingegaard or Roglic perspective (you know, a 3x GT winner & Olympic champion with 64 career wins), today was a stupid tactic.

Increasing your deficit in GC on purpose is something a normal team doesn't do.

No not just as easily... Wout wins here 90/100 times and the other 10 times pog doesnt automatically win... your hatred clouds your judging to the point youre ridiculously reaching and embarassing yourself in the process
You're right I'm so embarrassed and hateful for thinking winning the Tour is more important than winning stages. My position has been nothing but consistent, and the only thing that's changed is Jumbo have proven my assumption wrong that they wouldn't sacrifice chances for the win for stages.

As much as everybody wants to see a GC race as a spectator, I totally understand why Team JV rode for the stage win today. If they made a mistake it was in selecting a dual purpose team at the beginning of the tour.

In any event 4 seconds will be neither here nor there at the end in the unlikely event that JV does manage to break Pog in the mountains at some point. The only way I see him winning the tour is through a Pog Covid failure, a crash or something unforseen and he is still well placed to capitalise should any of those events occur.

You're acting like this is a one-week race which will be decided exclusively on a short TT and an easy MTF.

After the stage he was even disappointed.
A debutant, only beaten by Van Aert, Matthews, and Pogacar was disappointed.

:D I'm a big fan of Kron, but don't think he should be here, particularly with getting Covid just before. Seems like desperate/poor management by Lotto?

I was thinking to myself, no way the Wout haters find a way to make this win somehow about Jumbo tactics, this was the obvious play since he’s the only one on the team faster than Pogi in such a finish…

I guess I should never be surprised on these forums.

Great win, he’s simply in another class than anyone else this year.
