I think people forget that it‘s not a coin toss between gaining four minutes in the mountains and losing them. It could also go back and forth with not much gained. Roglič won a GT on bonus seconds not too long ago. Still I think getting Van Aert stage wins is also an important goal. It just makes a bad impression on me when they can‘t decide who they‘re prioritizing. Van Aert could still win enough stages without influencing GC in favor of Pogačar.

I'm tempted to open a thread with all the nicknames for Van Aert

Belgian Pozzato
Belgian Potato (this is for our northern European friends)
Glorified stage hunter
Lone Sanremo winner

Anything else?
I always think of him as a werewolf. He reminds me of this. He really looks very very animalistic.

Van Aert dropping back to help Vingegaard when his help was really needed and foregoing the points = green main objective?

Wout is guaranteed win...Vingegaards/Roglic are always going to be 2nd tier to Pog. Smart to go for stage wins when your GC guys aren't going to win yellow.
Do you think Jumbo believes they cannot possibly win?

There's the implicit assumption they would rather have 2 riders with the potential to podium the Tour instead of farming the Giro/Vuelta combo while Van Aert farms Tour stages/green etc.

The mere mention of Roglic triggers some people really badly.

I mean what's the deal? Did Imola 2020 leave such a huge scar on so many people? I previously mentioned Vingegaard because he's the obviously best placed Jumbo rider in best condition to win the TdF, but Rogla man... what a tragedy.

Everything he's done for that team, all the wins, Grand Tours (something WvA can only dream of), & for what? To get dropped by his own team on the cobbles & then see green become the main objective in the TdF? Sucks.
I enjoy the irony of you, who throws a tantrum every time van Aert does something more than carrying bottles, saying that the mentioning of Roglic triggers people.

Sure, and Cavendish was the best rider of 2009.

If you'd put Van Aert over a rider who's won 3 Grand Tours, a monument, and Olympic gold, a 2nd place in the Tour de France in addition to more GT stage wins and more wins overall in the same period then I'm not questioning if I am biased, and I'm also not really thinking I'm blinded by hatred.

If you think monuments are the be-all-end-all, then of course not. I dont. Wout is a complete specimen, a peak Sagan on steroids. He should have won some of the cobbled monuments, but haven't yet (remember Covid, crashes etc. all play a part). He was as strong in the spring as he is now and was the red hot favourite going in, but caught Covid. I think you know all of it, dont you?

Wout has proved, without contest, more than VDP has, even though Mathieu has 2 Flanders. Wout is more well rounded and has a Mathieu-esque peak shape as well through ALL terrain. I cannot understand how people can sit there with a straight face, watching all these races as we do, and come to the conclusion he's not even in the top-2.

Also, please, please, please do not compare Cavendish with Wout... they're not even in the same breath man. Like.... man.

I can only imagine how terrible the atmosphere will be at the dinner table tonight.

I can only imagine after stage 5...

I think that is why Van Aert went off on an own initiative on stage 6, even though they want to claim it was "planned".

The way they were riding at the start clearly indicated that they wanted van Aert in the break, but obviously not in a break of 3. That was going nowhere.

But it was kind of stubborn to not drop back. That was just doomed. Team should called him back.

Wow this Tour de France is really dividing people on here like a Contador vs Schlock fight. A lot of people now invested in the next 2 weeks

More like Contador vs Armstrong. It's all about JV politics here.
Me surely likes Roglic way more than WvA before the Tour, don't know if it'll stay the same after the Tour if I keep following this forum

I really think you are. Extremely blinded.

Vinegar himself said in an interview at the finish line that the plan was to get Wout into a large break. People have said JV created a cover story after the race, but facts prove otherwise.

It looks like JV will be criticised no matter what they do, so I like that they've decided to not give a hug and do everything possible to get a debate going before, during and after every stage.

Perhaps some people will even learn what a Jumbo-Visma actually is before we reach Paris.

Congratulations to Wout van Aert for taking the stage win.

As for the rest. I feel it's rather safe to say Ineos is happy and will defend 3. JV is happy and will more or less hope for Covid to beat Pogi. Time i guess to find other interest beyond watching closely the GC battle. Green looks like it's taken too. The idea i would cheer for or against injury or illness for somebody to win. Then i rather watch F1. It's just not for me. I am still mainly in it for Rogla. Just because he is still there. No other special reason beyond that. If on a rest day he would chose to rather kiss his sister. Just go for it.

Wout could offer some people on this chatboard a hug, and in return they would give Wout a smack with a feedbag.

Kiss his sister?? What Slovenian expression is this? :D
