Lidl-Trek in the same bad situation as on the hilly stage the other day - getting the heavy guys out in the breakaway instead of Skjelmose and Ciccone. Mads defended the decisions the other day, talking about bad luck, but when it happens twice ...

He will take at least 20-30s more on the descent. Could have a minute going into the last climb, so he might survive that one as well. He is the man to beat.

MVDP looking good here now, they will need to get rid of him before the last climb and it looks like he is trying to give himself a buffer should they catch him.

Nobody in the world could have predicted the stage would unfold like it has.

It's not like Ciccone and Skjelmose didn't try, but you can attack a million times and still miss out when a group finally goes.

The chasing group doesn't have that much climbing talent, so I can easily see them failing to catch MvdP. They really aren't allowed to look at each other too much.

Best case scenario would be a crazy start. A long and hard fight to be in the breakaway, with someone decent ending up in it. Forcing Jumbo to work and keep the group on a tight leash. Those three last climbs later in the stage coming back-to-back-to-back, with almost zero flat km in between them, invites for some exciting racing.

However, if the break goes with no one important in it... the break could easily get +10 minutes and the peloton going at snail pace towards the final. Jumbo controlling those climbs quite easily in the end.

No one getting away behind him so the pace drops often. Even Campenaerts getting back. A good descent after this one and he can make it. His finish is on the last top now.

Surely at this point AG2R are just making things harder for O'Connor, because it looks like that group is coming back.

But when it happens twice. What is Pedersen's intentions? He knows he won't get a result in that terrain, and it's not that he's saving energy for later.
