Great performance by Adam Yates. Last Dom standing. Many wrote him off. Won't get into what this means compared to TJV strength left behind. Will see what happens tomorrow. 3d chess by TJV for now.
Absolutely. Most (including me) thought Sepptimus was the strongest hill domestique. A Yates was much better today.

Does it feel like a missed opportunity for Vingegaard to not attack the descent? He was very comfortable on the wheel and he did take time there earlier in the race. Wondering if he could have bridged to Rodriguez.

Yes, but I think he won't risk too much.

Vingegaard will be pleased Pogacar couldn't get away on a longer, steeper climb.
But he is still vulnerable, and Pogacar would be best off by attacking in every stage uphil in the last 1.5 K and try to get 10-15 seconds.

The question is: who will be best in the TT?

Imagine if the Tour is won, because one of them has a technical on the TT

Pretty dumb from Pogacar at the end, instead of 7 sec gain, he lost 1, and how things stands, seconds could decide this Tour.

Pogi can let Yates go but that doesn't mean JV will.

If JV is on Yates wheel and sprints then he's probably beating Yates given the latter was clearly dead anyway, and Pogi has to come around him and risk getting it wrong rather than just launching when he wants.
Pog is never losing a sprint to Vingegaard.

Going to come down to Loze really now. Not sure gap in TT will be enough

Great job by Yates. Pogs interview before stage was to survive. And he did. So glad to be able to see this battle. Pray for no stupid crashes. Glasses off of Pog adds something. Shows his face and concentration and pain. Great. Race.

The two at the top are really close in the ability to sustain watts, Pogi can open a gap with his acceleration, but he cannot really open it. Vinge had to really work to close the 3-4 seconds and i think he felt like he could not counter. If he could he would have opened up a sizable gap with the descent and that would be a pretty big waste of an opportunity.

Rodriguez really shine for his endurance and downhill ability, it's really amazing for a guy so young to be able to win one of the hardest paced stage i can remember.

Maybe he could have, but I think it's a risk-reward consideration. Clearly he's a better descender than Pogacar though, you saw him sometimes having to correct Pogi's awkward lines. This was also obvious in last year's Tour.

If he's getting a bit more desperate and he really can't drop Pogi uphill he's probably going to try. He did try for a bit on the Tourmalet stage, for example.
