Third day in a row something unexpected happened. Asgreen can thnk Lotto for adding a second rider to the break but Campenaerts final turn was huge. Bunch got too cute in the final kms.

The fight for the break today will be intense. It benefits Jumbo for the break to go so Jonas doesn't have to have anything to do with a bunch sprint. So they don't chase. I think the break goes today, unfortunately for JDP.

Very sure they don't make it without that last effort from Campenaerts. The difference was 20 m or so, which is 1.5 second at these speeds. Actually, Campenaerts already saved the break by letting himself drop to pull Eenkhoorn. It made sense though, in spite of cynical comments by arm chair experts.

Welsford 21st congrats. Couldn't even get out of his saddle anymore. When are teams going to understand that if you don't have a supersprinter who can get over mountains pretty easily you don't have a chance in a sprint in the last week.

It was actually one of the most memorable moments of this Tour - tactically. Getting an extra team mate in an already established breakaway in flat terrain so far into the stage, that's brilliant.

I'm not entirely sure the pull in itself made the difference. But I think if he hadn't pulled at all, the three others would have stopped a bit, and there was no room for that.

Campenaerts sat up during the ITT on Tuesday which he finished ten minutes down on Vingegaard over 22.4 KM's (when he could have challenged for the stage), just to save energy for his effort today.
