I would do the exact same thing Gall is doing. A top 3 is great, you have a tiny chance of Hindley blowing it completely, you have a tiny chance of getting away from Vingegaard/Pogacar staring each other down.
If the Yatess are there or even more, he has nothing of those things.

This is so boring
No it wasn't. How is he more sure of winning? Attacking on a climb, where he has been the best in the last week, or waiting for a sprint where Pogacar is usually stronger? (even last year, when Vingo was dropping Pogi uphill, he won sprints to the line like in Peyragudes).
Him not being stronger is boring
