Do Quickstep really think Alaphilippe stands a chance against Ciccone, Buchmann and Hindley?
If QuickStep can help the break getting a big lead it might lead to Hindley, Ciccone, Buchmann etc needing to work for GC already on the rolling terrain before Col du Marie Blanque and then Als can be on the wheel here.

I think that’s the best possibility to make him survive CdMB.

Yeah that break is dead. Hindley should slowly drift back at the HC climb I think. Have Buchmann attack and try to move up to the front with other strong climbers like Ciccone and Gall so that you have at least a satellite left.

Why exactly is giving Ciccone minutes risky? Yet to win a GC of any kind, yet to finish a GT in the top 15.
Yeah, but some of his climbing performances this year were legit top class. Outsprinting Roglic and Evenepoel on that MTF in Catalunya and being the 4th fastest on that Murito climb up to the fortress in Grenoble while being in the breakaway all day long.
With so little flat in the one TT that you have in this race I wouldn't gift him minutes, cause what if his climbing performances are consistently on that level?

The Quickstep squad is terrible and jakobsen is crashed. They have to gamble on Alaphilippe or they won't win anything

Fair points but why not join a move like the one with WVA and Campanaerts instead? This way they're just burning themselves against the chasing peleton as well as against guys in the break. But yeah, might as well do something I guess.
