It tells us all, that nobody in the yellow jersey group believes the two top steps on the podium are available, so they have no interest in catching The Pogacar/Vingegaard group.

They are riding their own race for 3rd, from now on an the rest of the Tour, while largely ignoring what Jumbo and UAE are playing at.

They probably saw we had thread dedicated to third place on these forums and that made up their minds.

It's not definite, the rest of the Tour is still to play out, but we may see him pivot to 1 week races and classics with gradients in future, while just stage hunting in Grand Tours.

Probably for the better. When Skjelmose is this weak already now, imagine how he looks on Loze. This gives him time to reassess and focus on other targets earlier.
