Who'd have thought Puy de Dome could be a write off, and it would STILL be the best first week of a grand tour in memory.
Rate the tour at the first rest day poll should be interesting. Anyone gives it less than a 9 should be banned.

Sepptimus is at 5:28. The best mountain domestic, for sure. I wonder if he's considered going to a team where he can lead and try to win a Grand Tour.

In an interview, Sepp said Jumbo thought maybe they could distance Pog on the Tourmalet and when that didn't happen they would try on the final climb. But Pog was too strong.

If enough of them are over the limit I'm sure they will not boot them. It has happened before. Which of course is unfair to the sprinters who tried harder to finish within the limit.

Everybody and their dog thought yesterday was a sign Pogacar was undercooked and should thus be attacked today. JV did exactly that. Isolated him on Tourmalet, and had a strong teammate up the road. The first attack didn't dislodge Pogacar, but that was OK, could still happen on the last climb (like last year), and Vignegaard could sit behind a train for 25 km to rest. The only thing that went wrong is that Vignegaard apparently didn't have the legs (and didn't recognize this in time), and Pogacar was much better than expected.

The team that did strange things today was Bora. Keeping the break close enough so that it invited a Vignegaard attack - why? No-one of note was in the break.

Come on, it's still humans we're dealing with here. Last year Pogi was equal to the task as well, until he suddenly wasn't. Sure, Vingegaard didn't look at his absolute best, but of course he wasn't awful either.

Jumbo attacking the Tourmalet was surprising because the last climb is one where the valley road and early bits are where teammates can really make a difference but the upside of it was the possibility of putting the GC out of reach in week 1, I think it was justifiable as a risk

Not really as it only costs 30s, Jonas has the jersey, and if things worked out a bit better, they practically sealed the win.
This is like spending your lunch money on 50-50 odds to become a millionaire and then complain that you don't have lunch for the day. The potential benefits far outweighted the eventual negatives.

The Joux Plane and Courchevel stages will be pretty rough time limit-wise, especially with how deep all the non-climbers are having to go already. I can't see everyone surviving the chopping block, and Cavendish will be one of the first on it.

An interesting dynamic; logic might dictate Jonas will decline and Pogs form rise, but then there is the issue of whether Pogs wrist will go the distance.

Niermann is arrogant. There, I said it. But it's true.

People *** & moan about wheelsuckers or conservative tactics or mountain sprinters or trains or whatnot but at the end of the day Vingegaard had a healthy lead over Pog this morning & some psychological dominance as well. So, all Jumbo needed to do from here on was counter Pog's moves which would have become increasingly desperate as the Tour advanced.

But, instead they go for a Granon repeat with 'total cycling' & their leader launching it hard & deep on the Tourmalet to link up with Wout van Aert. I mean on the PlayStation that might look like a cool idea but this is real life.

Amazingly self defeating brainless way to race. Vingegaard literally handed 28 seconds to Pog on a silver platter. He also exposed his own limitations (which is absolutely not smart at all). Now Pog knows he can hurt him.

Great for the tour.
Vingegaard landed 1.04 min yesterday on Pogscar by attacking 20 km out and leading all the way in and Poagacar smashed back today and gained 28 sec back on Jonas by showing that massive explosion he can muster a few km from finish when he is feeling good.

Makes sense that Vista tried, after yesterday when they saw weakness in Pogacar and managed to isolate him today, but Jonas was not on top today, already clear when Van Aert moved out, and Jonas should counter and Pogacar could hold Jonas pace in the saddle

Maybe Jonas should have been more vocal to the team, that the legs, had too much history from yesterday and they had to tone down today's plan, or maybe he felt good until he didn't.

all in all, I reckon Jumbo Vista is pretty happy when looking at the overall GC after stage6.
