Thing that makes them faster on descends is getting towed by the cars
Nah.

Most of these sprinter guys are pretty good at descending.

Groves, the most recent example I can think of, was very good in the Giro and impressed.

You just dont usually get to watch these guys descend from the gruppetto in the mountain stages and I doubt the cars are infront of them going downhill...

Even being British I don’t want this. If would not be good to see the Merckx record broken by a 1 trick pony no matter how elite he is at that trick.

Save the outright record for Pogacar in a few years time.

Being a "1 trick pony" is what makes it cooler.

He has had far fewer stages he could potentially win.

Wonder how long it will take my brain to realize I'm not watching Van Aert every f*cking time I'm seeing an RB rider.

Shouldn't Astana send Lutsenko back to help Cav? This is Cavendish we're talking about. They're going to need a stretcher to get him to the finish line.

Being more riders doesn't help him, he already has four guys who can shield him from wind and get him supplies, and they are pedalling lightly to not drop him.

Sick because of the heat and being out of shape. That he is exhausted.

Or that he is actually sick?

Well, he probably not gonna admit to being out of shape so probably a stomach bug + heat or something will be it.
He got over multi mountain stages in Suisse that were far harder than this stage has been so far, which was mostly flat with a shallow rise. They're pouring water over him and hes puking, it's illness, or heatstroke.

That's this thing that's held as a self evident truth when there's no particular reason to believe it.

Bigger riders will actually be less likely to race many mountainious races, and should therefor be less experienced descenders, and the amount of situations you have to bomb a descent to make a time cut represent a huge minority of descents raced.

Are you disputing the basic principle in physics that heavier things descend faster? :p

Eisel said that he expected him to throw up , because of drinking to much water because of the heat. So might also be that.
But if it's the heat or a sickness doesn't matter that much I guess, he looks toast.

In a straight line, yes. But the best descender are because of bike handling skills. Nibali and now Pidcock. Can has had a problem the last several years staying on his bike.

I think his hope will be that there's another group of sprinters also been dropped and per PCS are about a minute ahead of him. If Astana can join up with that group, maybe he'll have a chance
