I mean, they did argue at length with me at the time that the GC teams did the right thing in stage 6 of the 2020 Tour, when they rode at a snail's pace and turned the Col de la Lusette into something less selective than Montevergine di Mercogliano and actually lost time to a Greg van Avermaet that had been in the break all day on a bona fide cat.1/HC tweener climb..

Yeah... because stage 6 on a MTF that wasnt very hard. It wasnt much to gain that time either for the effort needed to make the selection.

And again... stage 6.

Now it is stage 1 and not very hard climbs.

I'm always keen to do the "see where competitors' form is and see if you can eliminate some pretenders", Salvarani is more keen to preserve the team's own helpers for days where the reward is higher.

I understand GC is a long game. But if you are supposed "superteam" with uncertain form of your main rivals due to crashes you should invest more on stage like this. At least in my books.

Well, Soler and Ayuso weren't strong and no need to use Almeida and Yates this early when there is another hard stage tomorrow and Galibier on tuesday.

Very difficult against Pedersen and Van Aert but bonus are definitely possible.

The group was short, about 35/40 riders, naturally it was the time to put ayuso, yates and almeida working. Soler and sivakov would never be able to drop more riders.
