I don't think it was stupid from Vingegaard – he isn't as strong as Pogacar this year, and his acceleration is especially weak. He might have looked at Combloux, Le Lioran, and thought the only way for me to beat him is to ITT a mountain from the bottom and hope it is too fast for him. It was not

There is still a week to go. Why blow yourself up when you know from yesterday you don't have it yet against Pog.
