Tour de France Tour de France 2024, Stage 3: Plaisance (Piacenza) > Turin (Torino), 230.8 km

Given the racing was pretty meh, these first three stage winners are as good as it gets. Not only in terms of likeable riders but also a welcoming change with smaller teams winning stuff.
EF getting the yellow jersey like that is kinda hilarious and I'm really looking forward how this gets covered in the Netflix series next year. I need extensive slow motion of Carapaz sprinting backwards in between a bunch of 1,90m giants while Vaughters jumps up and down his chair giving us great metaphorical quotes what this means for the team.
And note that it wouldn't have happened if they didn't chase the DSM duo in stage 1!

Long-range defence masterclass!

Healy, for no reason, wants to wiggle in between Evenepoel and Pogacar to cross over in front of Evenepoel to the other side of the road, to "sprint" ahead of their bunch while they were freewheeling towards the finish. Evenepoel simply thinking WTF is this guy doing.
Carapaz only has a stage sum 10 points lower than Pogi after today, so if Healy wasn't perfectly sure of the number of riders ahead of them, it made great sense to get in front of Pogi.

Then Evenepoel has a very limited comprehension of the race situation. Or he thinks Healy knows how many guys were between Remco and Carapaz and actually knows exactly what‘s going on.
They were riding 25km/h, if Healy wanted to make sure he finished ahead of Evenepoel, he had plenty of opportunity and time to make sure of that in the final straight. It's about the manoeuvre of wiggling between other riders and crossing over right in front of Evenepoel, which was not risk free and completely unnecessary imho. I'm not even sure Evenepoel was annoyed or just thought it was funny that Healy started to sprint, because he is clearly laughing about it after his initial gesture.

Oh, come on. You talk like he beat a bunch of non-sprinters when the entire top 10 were sprinters. All the major sprinters were involved bar Philipsen. Maybe the post you were responding to was an exaggeration but your response was as well.
My response was to the "little belgian boys" comment, when the fastest "Belgian boy" wasn't there. It was a weird comment focused on belittling (literally) a nationality for reasons I can't fathom. I'm sure if Bini lost and someone said "little Eritrean boy" that wouldn't have been taken too well.

Just...odd.

Abrahamsen holds on to both his jerseys. I'm expecting him in the breakaway again tomorrow to try and hold on to one if not both jerseys. The peloton might not let a break go before the sprint though.
By my calculations, if he can place 6th (10 points) or better at the intermediate he holds on to green - and that is if Girmay wins it (10 points behind). He's got 17 points to Pedersen.

It will be impossible for him to hold onto the polka dots, because even with winning the first 2 climbs he only gets to 38 points - and Galibier is 40 points because it's the Henri Desgrange climb of the Tour.

Fake news, again.

Galibier awards 20 points. The only climb giving double points is Cime de la Bonette.
He crosses in front of Evenepoel.
But he wanted to finish ahead of Pog first and foremost, if that's what you meant, yes.

I thought that comment was weird as well since there was really only one Belgian involved, I just didn't think it was fair to disparage Bini's win.
I said he won a 15 man sprint because people crashed. Those are facts. Any Tour win is a great win, he beat some really good sprinters.

But it wasn't a full field sprint and I'm not disparaging anyone.

Vaughters was going on about how EF would be playing chess while the other GC teams were playing checkers - I chalked it up to usual Vaughters BS but maybe he IS a genius. OTOH, even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then.
