Of course, though I think the difference to 2013 is that the attacks continued until the final 7km, and the one that looked to be the most potentially consequential was with 18km (?) to go. It wasn't a stage for the ages because of the lack of GC gaps, but it was better than basically any other stage in the past few GTs, and I don't think that has to be judged on the basis of gaps
When you put it that way, it makes the fact that Visma were too scared of not having domestiques for the finale even worse because the moves were taking place in the finale.

It's like they think Jonas Vingegaard is Emma Emmerich or something and they're sending Jorgenson on an escort mission.

JV rode like a team defending a lead. Not a team in third.

Whether you take Remco's chances seriously or not they have kept the equation more difficult for themselves even presuming another mutant JV week 3 is coming and that Pogi slows down after riding one GT already

This was a great stage. Excitement throughout. Selfishly, as a cycling fan, I wanted Vingo to ride more aggressively, but he and Visma rode in their own best interests, so it's hard to find any fault with that. Smart riding isn't always exciting.
Pog rode like the champion he is. The guy loves to race his bike and it shows, to the benefit of all cycling fans. I was rather disappointed with VdP. He's been mediocre this entire first week.
Also respect to Remco for another solid ride, although it's abundantly clear that Pog/Vingo won't regard him as a true threat until he proves himself in the high mountains. Rog was mostly invisible but rode smartly and didn't lose anything.

I see no reason not to add equestrian events or calf herding competition. If you are going to stray from road racing why limit yourself!! Go all out, have random thumb tack sections or put metal ball bearings all over the road, why not jump ramps? Which rider can clear 5 parked cars? Redbull is probably pushing for something, only a few injured people and one from an unrecognized country!! Maybe have riders jump between buildings!! Or swim your bike across a river wo a bridge!!
Survivor was a popular show, why not integrate bike racing

ASO was so excited about the success of riding on dirt roads, next year they are including river jumps and hand-to-hand combat.

Sounds like one of the very early TdFs.

Maybe they should also allow all the riders:

3x small bags with glass and nails in, can use them when you wish over the 21 stages.
No assistance from team cars at all... have to repair own mechanicals.
A flak jacket that riders under 65kg can wear on descents.

That was an awfully big effort today from Pogacar for zero seconds gained. Again and again he attacked, and even when caught he sometimes kept riding flat out into the wind. Yes, it’s exciting, but is it good racing from a tactical standpoint? I guess the idea was to put Visma and Vingegaard under stress and hope they either cracked or made a mistake or suffered a misfortune of some sort or other. But to be fair to them, they stayed cool, even when Vingegaard had to change bikes (and I think we can assume that Tratnick is riding the same set up, a total master stroke by Visma). Pogacar will be hoping, praying, that his examination of Vingegaard pays off at some stage or other and that all this effort doesn’t come back to bite him on the arse in the third week.

Was it an awful lot of effort? Was he in full-on attack mode for more than a combined 10 minutes?

MVdP has been absolutely bulletproof the first week and showed why he wears the rainbow stripes!! Guy has been the absolute example of team player giving requested lead outs even when the tactic proves to be futile both for personal results and turns to a schit sandwich because teammate can't sprint wo getting pinched by officials!!
People w something to lose, rode the smart race, organization ultra lucky in light of yesterday's race fatality that this intentional use of unsafe surfaces resulting in an almost injury free race!! And organizers know that gravel racing, w what little tradition exists uses different wheels, tires, bikes, support, and instead insisted on a design that had teams and riders winging it because proper equipment, bike changes and support were impossible at scale or at speed. Now what looked like teammates riding duplicate bikes because of the difficult to impossible circumstances for regular road race support.. Bravo Tratnik for riding as a body double. All the people yelling about rider safety, poor course design, built in danger need to realize it's all an act.!!
Richard Plugge types want it both ways!!
