Chapeau Anthony Turgis. Another great winner on the day. Much deserved. Tour is certainly throwing up worthy winners this year.
Wow.Damn, just realized I'll miss the live signal today
Will try and shut down every kind of radio-/internet signal until I'll be able to watch full stage from late evening. It would be extremely underwhelming to me, if the riders does not grab out this fine chance to create the most spectacular stage of the year.
Great post—glad you managed to watch the replay avoiding spoilersWow.
Just finished watcing the entire stage (plan A succeeded here, haven't read or heard anything yet)
Incredible show.
So many ingredients to my full likings.
- the scenes
- the two (or more, if you will) races in one
- the heroism
- the struggles
- the misfortunes
- the tactical race
- the irrational race
- the tensions
- the annoyances
- the good laughs
- the heart attack situations
The nuances of the different strategies, individual riders, teams, for the victory, for the difference, how much gunpowder had to be burned and how much had to be saved - nomatter if for the stage or for the long run.
My heart almost stopped for Stuyven in the absolute final.
I could not have been without the less cool-minded forces in the outbreak either. A good spice for the story.
And how lucky we are to have riders as Pogi and Remco, diligent with the fountain pen to write this chapter.
And a yellow jersey worn with style - who can be against this? Not me.
But also positively surprised by Vingegaard's ability today, even though it was tough and required help from teammates (phenomenal Jorgenson! And Laporte, WvA, etc, Vidma showed that it wasn't just on paper, as I actually thought).
To me fully logical that on Tratnik's bike and with the unknown factors, well under pressure, he did not empty himself in the pecular Pogi-Remco-Jonas situation. Also maybe due to Jonas maybe don't count in Rogla in the GC? Lots of thoughts here while watching..
However, I think Jonas should've taken a few alibis at the front, for his own good. The second he only makes enemies with his competitors and among cycling fans. Maybe in another era, but amongst his main competitors the contrast is huge.
But OK, wondered if maybe it was the psychological discomfort of not being on your own bike. That thought swarmed like an annoying pest in my head, but he could have shut it down with just a few alibis.
Well, terribly long day here, will be a novel if I were to sum up all my impressions and feelings of this indeed memorable stage.
Just stating that the stage didn't exactly disappoint me.
Cycling is alive.
Vive Le Tour!

It's road racing, not all roads are tarmacked.I see no reason not to add equestrian events or calf herding competition. If you are going to stray from road racing why limit yourself!! Go all out, have random thumb tack sections or put metal ball bearings all over the road, why not jump ramps? Which rider can clear 5 parked cars? Redbull is probably pushing for something, only a few injured people and one from an unrecognized country!! Maybe have riders jump between buildings!! Or swim your bike across a river wo a bridge!!
Survivor was a popular show, why not integrate bike racing
And such a good thing for the climate...Can we appreciate that Lance flew Bradley Wiggins all the way to his Aspen home for his podcast on this stage? Thats what I call dedication.
Not everything we enjoy is a good idea. This was a fantastic stage, very entertaining. Just watched highlights again. Can't believe I was skeptical about it, what an idiot.
I get why riders may not like it but don't understand how can someone watching not enjoy it, this was a spectacle. Even without any of the favorites gaining any time.

I was trying to figure out if that was Connor mcgregor for a while when I tuned inCan we appreciate that Lance flew Bradley Wiggins all the way to his Aspen home for his podcast on this stage? Thats what I call dedication.
I watched/heard that interview—he definitely said the 1st part but pretty sure he didn’t say the second (“Vingegaard didn’t have them“). The latter I suppose was implied but he was careful to say several times “I understand that it’s strategy.” He did say “Pogi and I like to attack from a long ways out” and (my paraphrase) “too bad that didn’t work out.”
Probably a primary reason that NFL, NBA, NHF, Premier League, F1,GP1, NASCAR, MLB, professional tennis, everything is a bigger concern monetarily than pro cycling, nobody would arbitrarily put gravel on the playing or driving surface. And nobody w a brain would do so hours after a death of a professional racer, at a professional race in their sport..nobody, absolutely nobody would press the novelty that far. There was no way, impossible to eliminate accidents in today's stage, so each crash, each near miss w caravan, camera and team cars, support vehicles was a gift from the heavens. And the karma of pro cycling, w Cavs win is on borrowed time. You don't have Vino as a director to shatter history and can't know the record is dangerous!! When Vlasov crashed and survived, it's all borrowed time. You can't call for safety and then stage today's race. When Vingegaard said itIt's road racing, not all roads are tarmacked.
Vlasov did not crash on a gravel section. There were few mechanicals of real consequence and no other notable crashes (fewer than any other stage).I am personally happy that the Russian was not killed today. I
am happy that all in and at the race were not killed or injured for novelty sake.
