As for Almeida being happy or not in regards to not winning ToS. He was likely led on a bit, as AFAIK even Yates was saying things like Almeida will smoke them all on the last ITT. So in my opinion Almeida was in it for the overall, why else would he gift a stage win to Yates otherwise, if he didn't believe he was in it for the overall.

But this is lasts year snow now, they both will survive, till Galibier.
Yet Almeida said after the TT that he figured it was highly unlikely to overtake Adam due to it being ridden majority on a climb. And Almeida did smoke them all, beat all the GC riders in both TTs.

Roglic or Vingegaard also said they were happy after Kuss winning the Vuelta, but that doesn't mean it's all the true. These top riders have they're personal ambitions and they have egos. It's not fun for them to give races to teammates when they feel they are better than them in a race. Like i said, i am very curious to see the first of them to be sacrificied.

They will do the job for Pogacar but after the Tour i bet there will be fissures between them, because they can't make everybody happy.
Roglic and Vingegaard were also held back and not allowed to fight for the win. Almeida was able to fight for the overall and asked Adam to try and attack so they can finish together since he didn’t like attacking him.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but in the first mountain stage, Almeida worked for Yates when Almeida was above him in general classification right?
Depends on riders' personality, really. Roglic and Vingo are born champions, they want to win badly (even if the latter hides it somewhat) plus they were stronger than Kuss obviously. Almeida and Yates may be content to work for a rider, who is superior anyway.
Like i said, they have no problem in working for Pogacar, but they will not have a problem in being sacrificed before the others? Will yates or Almeida be happy if they are sacrificed before ayuso?

They can do it interchangeably, there are many mountain stages. After doing their work they can still fight for their GC positions like Yates did last year (unless Pog says: sprint until 3 km from the climb as if it's the finish!).

On a stage tailor made for Adam, yes. Almeida also rode his own race after working, he didn’t just drop off to the side. If Almeida was bummed or irritated about it he wouldn’t have let Adam come up on stage 7 or let him win. Roglic and Vingegaard were actively held back from riding for their own interests at multiple points during the race before it became final.

@SHAD0W93

What else are you going to say after the stage and in such situation? From a day before:

“He is such a nice guy. When we got away at the end there, we said what we should do,” he explained. “I asked if him if I could have the stage and he said yes, straight way.”

“I think for me personally as well, tomorrow in a TT he is going to put almost a minute into me. So I am sure you will see him on this chair tomorrow,” he said to the TV interviewer.

All in all Almeida got punk'd. Next time gift a stage win to your teammate only if you are going to win the overall, for that being the team plan, otherwise why would you do that as it's Adam that should have gifted it to you.

P.S. I don't feel it will affect the Tour team chemistry, though.

It's not that easy to manage in a 3-week competition that situation. Only Yates like last year, is a bit different.

I too prefer Jumbo team . The UAE team is a group of stars when you need a group of dependables and lets face it if Pog has trouble on a climb (doubtful) but say he does then Yates is enough to help him
If Pog is dropped cos he is cooked then Yates and Soler are enough to pace him if he can be paced back

Where he needs support is elsewhere ...where I would rather have Majka or Berg

How good will Almeida or Ayuso be on the gravel say in comparison to WVA
If there is an ambush in a hilly stage by Remco or Visma how good will UAE stars be ?

Not sure who Pog needs but it is best they are dependable on all terrain and used to and will to do Domestique work

100% agree. Bjerg not Majka by any means, Majka would only be another mountain helper which he dont need. Bjerg would provide excellence in a area they lack and he needs more help in than in the mountains agree. Bjerg for Soler would be even better team or Bjerg for a pure climber too even for me but I do believe he was given the green light for the olympics therefor reasoning giro over tour this year if im not mistaken.

I don't think Bora and Emirates needs so much firepower for the Tour. It would be better for them, to put some top riders in other GTs.

I think this would the best teams for Bora, Quick step, Visma and Emirates.

Bora

Roglic
Hindley
Lipowitz
Buchmann
Sobrero
Van poppel
Denz
Haller

Emirates

Pogacar
Yates
Mcnulty
Sivakov
Soler
Pollit
Wellens
Bjerg

Visma

Vingegaard
Kuss
Jorgenson
Kelderman
Van aert
Van baarle (or Gesink if Van baarle can't go)
Laporte
Tratnik

Quick step

Remco evenepoel
Mikel Landa
Van Wilder
Knox
Alaphilippe
Asgreen
Lampaert
Pedersen

Re Almeida "not being content"; his face always betrays emotions. Can't you tell? He was genuinely happy to work for Yates and being second. Part of it probably because his shape has been uncertain after another covid infection in the beginning of the year.

Also Yates doesn't come off as sneaky.

The only one who might mess things up really is Ayuso. He's also crash prone which is another way to mess up.
