As much as I hated their domination in grand tours of 2023 (especially Vuelta team orders stuff) I kinda feel sorry for them now.

Also from personal perspective I want to have competitive TDF and not one man show (despite being his fan).

I think they basically named their biggest stars who were fit enough to race, regardless of actual form. They don't have much choice.

It's not just about Vingegaard either (or Sepp Kuss), i.e. Laporte has been terrible since his illness in MSR but he's also on the startlist.

Visma has problems & I don't believe the last month in Tignes has been a miracle cure for their issues (& evidently not regarding Kuss).

Don't feel sorry for them. They still have one of the best 8 team men for the race, and the best GT in normal conditions.

Plot twist: Jorgenson is the leader.

But the interesting part is they might need to show their cards early on, i.e. will Jorgenson ride for his own GC in what looks like dual leadership? Or will they sacrifice him for Vinge?

Without Kuss as a middle man of sorts i.e. a super dom for both, we might get an answer much sooner.

[[personal attack deleted]] Merlier has been riding almost continuously since February. With only very short rest periods. He rode the tough Giro, where he was successful. Afterwards, despite being tired, he also rode the Baloise Tour, winning two stages. In the meantime he has completely run out of steam, which was clear at the national, where he was beaten in the sprint by less strong sprinters. Sending him to the Tour in those circumstances would be medically and humanly unacceptable. And counterproductive, because after a few days he would already give up without a victory.

The real 'blow' here is to the copium narrative whereby Visma would only select these riders if their condition is good. No. Kuss didn't just catch Corona in recent days, i.e. his form has ranged from unremarkable to downright bad since the beginning of the season.

The point isn't even about when he caught Covid but rather the fact Kuss had evidently no form last week & yet he was still named in the team. Maybe they thought he'd improve but clearly that hasn't happened.

The team let Kuss compete having Covid. This time it went wrong, in contrast to the Giro 23 where he (and Roglic) continued despite Covid. Then, he and Roglic recovered quickly. But it's always a bad idea to allow sick riders to ride, especially with Covid. Hopefully Kuss doesn't suffer the consequences for the rest of the season. There are already plenty of riders who have not reached their level for a long time due to long Covid.

The main guy for Visma this years Tour edition is Matteo Jorgenson. Vingegaard will assume the position of super domestique and he will play the role of Roglic in the famous Granon stage to bait Pogacar, Roglic and Evenpoel into false attack.

Except this time Pogacar has Almeida, Yates and Ayuso who will work and catch an attacker (even Vingo if he's not strong enough to be the leader). Rogla also has super-doms: Vlasov and Hindley. To sum up: a tactical attack against Pogacar or Roglic will be very unlikely to succeed.

Astana going all in for Cav it seems, but they must be getting worried about their WT status as it looks like they're on their way to the PRT ranks.

There’s just a couple stages in the first week that will require work, then nothing till stage 14. I don’t think they’ll need to burn anyone yet especially since Bora and Ineos will be basically co-teaming with them.

That sounds like a great plan, except that Jorgenson is no Vingegaard!!!
