The typical “easy” solution when there is a dominating force in the race:
- backload the route to keep it tight as long as possible, believing that will create more tension in the race
- don’t make too hard stages, let them fight it out on the last climb (also more friendly for the casual fans just watching the last 15-30 minutes)
- come up with sometimhing stupid to hype as the big deal, when it’s basically irrelevant for the outcome of the race (grid start, bonus seconds on random hills or climbs or…. a short TTT)
That sort of route worked fine to keep it close in the marginal gains Sky era but it doesn't take much for Pog or Jonas to put 5 minutes into everyone.

Mur de Bretagne is also out, are they really going to do 6-7 sprints in the first 9 stages? This is shaping up to be a 2012-tier disasterclass of a route...

Gouvenou said that he was disappointed in the sprint stages and would not put not so many stages in future tours. However, for 2025 maybe that was to late?

We can hope for some surprises maybe? Gravel in stage 7 or 8?? Rouen with a hilly final maybe. A very demanding Mont-Dore stage on day 10.

Also wasn't Govenou talking how they were gonna do fewer flat stages?

I am already ready for "Jeez Red Rick why are you so negative about this route you're always negative"

Also, 2012 had more than a few punchy stages at the beginning, the main problem was that the main mountain stages were just god tier awful.

But by the middle of the second week Froome always had 3 minutes on his main opponent except for 2017. So it didn't really keep it close in them years as well.

I also want a few unipuerto MTF stages.
As long as they put 2-3 mountain stages designed for long range attacks, I'm fine with unipuerto stages.
AdH is sort of an unipuerto stage most of the time anyway. So if they manage to do it unipuerto I'm fine.

If there really are 7 flat non-TT, non-cobble, non-gravel stages in the first 9 days, I promise I won't say that.

But that's not going to be the case, we all know that.

But yeah, better to be prepared with the negativity, I guess.

Okay guys, we all have to be very strong. The newest update in the almighty velowire article suggests, that Carcassonne we be the finish of stage 14. This would mean that the Pyrenees would see two stages.

If one of those Pyrenees stages ends up to be the mentioned MTT, that would be horrible for racing and Ciclismo. We just could hope that the special thing about stage 13 is that it would be a sub 100 km stage. Options would be:

Bagners de Luchon - Port de Bales - Peyresourde - Peyragudes
Or
Bagners de Luchon - Portillon - Peyresourde - Peyragudes

Depends on what they plan to use/not use the day before.

The first week seems to be more clear now:

From grupetto and velowire:

"https://www.ouest-france.fr/tour-de-fra ... 3a2eb2c9d7

So the first 10 days till the restday are almost complete:

1/ Lille - Lille (sprint)
2/ Lauwin Planque - Boulogne/Mer (puncheurs)
3/ Valenciennes - Dunkerque (sprint)
4/ Amiens - Rouen (sprint or puncheur (there are a lot of hills around Rouen))
5/ CLM Caen - Caen (TT specialst)
6/ Bayeux - Vire (most likely sprint or baroudeurs or puncheurs (the distance between both city is not that big, so if ASO want they can spice the middle part of the stage with AGR kind of hills))
7/ St-Malo - Mûr-de-Bretagne (puncheur)
8/ St-Méen-le-Grand - Laval (sprint)
9/ Chinon - Châteauroux (sprint)
10/ Ennezat- Le Mont-Dore/Massif du Sancy (medium mountain stage (puncheur/baroudeurs/GC maybe))
Restday/ Toulouse
