I believe that the yellow jersey is a bigger carrot for them than the stage win today and that is borne out in the way that they are riding.

Plus they've basically brought a (semi) hilly classics team to the Tour, so have to try and monster today's stage. It's a risky strategy, but looks like paying off one way or another.
