I wouldn't be surprised if Lidl try to control this. This will probably end up being too hard for Milan but given the paucity of sprint stages from here on in, it's worth having a go.

I suppose for them they also have Skujins and Simmons who would stand a chance in the break, though big Tour breakaways on hilly stages are incredibly tricky to predict/control and their chances depend massively on who else is there.

Soudal won't help, but Alpecin and Wanty could fancy the stage (and Wanty really need it for UCI points, too).

On paper this also looks like a perfect stage for Nys. Don´t know, if his form improved..

Excessive number of punchy finales this year because Gouvenou hasn't realized Alaphilippe is completely à côté de la plaque aka not at the races.
Its much better than the alternative, and I highly doubt Gouvenou has had dreams of Alaf pulling off some magic in these stages. Its mainly just a response to the monotomy of flat stages, and he has achived that to be fair. I'd also argue its much more for the strongmen than pure puncheurs at least if the break will decide the race given it will be a hard stage to hit the break and their are various places to put in an attack from afar

I think it'll solely depend on what Alpecin want to do. If the get Mvdp in the break, the break will win it, if they think he'll get worked over they might actually pull and let him + the GC guys battle it out.
I don't think UAE or anyone else will control the break. UAE will want to save their guys before an important stage tomorrow and no other team should really fancy their chances enough to pull the whole day. I mean, Milan, really?

Edit: okay, I might've overlooked the possibility of Vaughters wanting to "honour" the jersey, that could actually happen.
