The only thing missing would be Pogacar in the background.

That helmet looks even crazier from that perspective. But it surely helped taking 2 min out of remco.

Result is actually terrible for the race cause none of the podium places will be a battle most likely, unless Roglic is desperate to never have to show himself in Germany ever again.
I wouldn't bank on Lipowitz keeping that form in the third week, Bora themselves seem surprised he kept his level from the Dauphine.
But yeah, on the other hand, Onley, Johannesson and Vauqelin are also not the guys to strike fear into him. Gall could become dangerous but he is far far down already.

i dont know if you are being particularly obtuse but you didn't talk about this year only ....you said he would be 2nd for every Tour and maybe his grandkids would be winners.....is that particular of this year...no
Jonas would have to improve to an eyebrow-raising degree, from the age of 28-29, to become competitive again. Normally you only get a little bit better or worse year to year. If he were 2% better or worse next year he'd still be 2nd due to the size of the gaps. Is that clear enough now?

The grandkids comment was a reference to Poulidor.

I guess so. He becomes the next Jan Ullrich ?

He's really not made for that, Ullrich is a completely different character than Vingegaard. And Vingegaard beat Pogacar twice, Ullrich beat GC-Virenque once and then almost never showed up in shape for the Tour, while still getting second or the podium. He was also a totally different rider type. So I don't feel the next Ullrich thing at all, because character, carreer and rider type are so different.

Which is a reason to like him. I would still rather see him win stages, polka dots, 1 week stage races, and classics than hang his entire season on the bottom step of the tour podium.
I am really torn because he feels different, thinks he sees something different, he fits more with Wout and MVP currently but in his minds eye he sees himself as a climbing contender..
So if his circle and him personally don't see a square peg going in a round hole he is going to keep at it.
There is something really admirable to see him keep trying.. I love the guy but he's in a box ..doesn't look like podium in my opinion, especially if he falters once or more in coming days.. But he is so close that he will be chased if he goes for stage win..
Sure he doesn't want to switch spots with Jorgenson , but he has a position that allow stage hunting!!

to write one off who has won the Tour twice is ridiculous ...Who knows he may get the e leg up Pog got at the end of 2023
you have no idea what the future has in store for any rider ..Is that clear enough for you ?

The obvious difference being Jan's self-sabotage in the off season and the fact that he was probably the most naturally gifted cyclist of his time (neither of which really seems to be the case for Jonas)
Despite his misfortunes, Ullrich was also fortunate to ride in an era when you didn’t have to live like a monk and be a skeleton to be at the top.
