I think that caution is fair and the real anger is the stage simply being shortened with less climbing and no replacement climb added to the revised parcours rather than the actual decision to amend the course.

You would have to scout, prepare and secure the alternate route. You have to provide amended roadbooks to all teams. When the authorities tell you 24h before the actual stage that they're closing off some roads for you, you might not have the time.

I only have one response to your precious, entitled view of what makes your world. Living in an agricultural dependent area and having ridden in those very Alps where the cattle are more important and productive than anyone you know to that culture you should just go find a quiet place. The long term economy there is seriously screwed and cycling "fans" have no clue. Is there no connection to these iconic locations and cultures at all?
I'm seriously embarrassed to all that embrace this butthurt disruption to their amateur prognostications.
Tadej still has to ride the last stage to win and whomever has the legs to go hard and fast impacts the gc.

Is there also an issue of than many people moving through an area of infection being a high vector of contagion to other areas. Thinking of the amounts of travel restrictions in the Foot and Mouth outbreak of (?) 2001

Saw the Tour come through the streets of Laval. The power and the sound of the peloton were completely awesome! I'm glad I got to see it once in my life.

There are 20 + 5 + 20 = 45 point today.
There are 2 + 1 + 5 + 1 = 9 points on stage 20
There are 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 5 points on stage 21.
That's 59 points maximum available.

I wouldn't put it past Visma to now have the polka dots as a target, but realistically it cannot be done without winning the stage with Vingegaard today - and even if he does as long as Pogacar is 2nd Vingegaard only gains 5 points on him.

Interestingly, if Vingegaard were to win all 3 climbs today with Pogacar 2nd, the points gap would be just 4 points ahead of stage 20 and 21

I was not traveling alone so it was essentially a sight-seeing vacation. I kept up by reading about it every day. The irony is that I know far less about the race than I ever have when I was actually in France.

This is a sad situation. I feel bad for the farmers. We drove a lot of small roads in the French countryside. Those boys grow a lot of wheat.
