Some pretty disgusting comments here regarding the place of Conti team riders in the Tour: basically, "just be happy to be in TV breaks and let the real riders do the job".
Maybe some here would be better off watching "TikTok cycling", where we would only see the same A-class riders fighting with each other, in pure fake-wrestling style... Quite revealing of the sad state of the sport right now, and the type of spectators that ony live for yet another MvdP vs Pogi duel...

Mostly yeah, Coquard was trying to squeeze into a very narrow space, but you see that in every sprint from someone...he just had more serious consequences this time.
This was a sprint for some green jersey points, which Coquard will never win. He should use his head a bit. Trying to squeeze into tiny gaps should not be done in a sprint of no importance. It was stupid, with bad consequences for someone who actually had the green jersey.

Imo, and experience when you get the plane of your bike changed dramatically the energy just counters like snow ski bindings and you just come out.. My own very, very personal opinion is Look Keo come disengaged easier than Shimano, and saying that I couldn't ever feel confident in Speedplay, but obviously personal because many heavy, heavy hitters, sprinters use the lollipop pedals with confidence.
When you get jarred like that it's like a mini high side, and he didn't crash just came unclipped..and suddenly instead of 5 possible points of contact, both feet gone, relying on hands and butt, until he clips back in.. Treacherous at that speed.. Yes Jasper beefed it, but decent save by French floundering fool!!!
Greg Lemond, Pedro Delgado Time pedals with Time shoes, white w red Velcro closures, didn't come unclipped often when you crashed!! Like old school leather buckle up snow ski boots and bindings that broke your leg or knee rather than detach!!
Good explanation and I understand it was a natural reaction at that point.

He wasn't squeezing into a tiny gap, and as I have already said, philepsen himself has numerous relegations for dirty moves and dangerous sprinting. So many sprinters do similar things in basically every sprint. I don't think coquard is without fault but people are attributing too much blame to something that happens in a split second, and now want to crucify the guy just because he's from a smaller team
