Yes they might.

1: everyone around cycling will know how Andy won those 2. (gifted to him and then without Albert racing)

2: Contador will win at least 3 more after that, possibly more.

20 years from now, somebody new to the sport will look at people's palmares and say: Armstrong 7 Tour wins, wow! Pereiro, a Tour winner - must have been a great rider, and so on.

I'd be really glad to see Andy choke again and it's possible he will but i just can't see past RS. Too many weapons.

What? So you guys would let him off because he's an exciting racer?!

The Tour will be great for the reason it always is - a race to decide the world's best GC rider. That isn't Contador, because he's been proven to be a cheat.

As if the others are pure as the fresh fallen snow.

The Tour isn't always great regardless of what the stakes are. I tend to believe what is shown on the road, in the races and by way of the quotes of those riders and managers that have worked with him and competed against him. His results are a testament to his deserved stature, the statements to his greatness by countless riders and managers (including Armstrong, Bruyneel, Riis, Kroon, etc...) are examples of the respect that he's garnered over time and will continue to receive. Regardless of this verdict he is still unquestionably the world's best stage racer. I look forward to his return to the sport.

By next summer they might both have the same number of TdF wins on their respective palmares.
I don't pay any attention to what the Cannibal has to say, as he always claims cycling is clean.
Still, I think this is a bad decision from a sporting side of things.
I hope Evans wins again this year.

Please oh great cycling gods, anyone but Andy!:p

No Contador will massively alter the dynamics of the race. Think it just swung in favour of Evans, Wiggins and Menchov.

My one consolation is that anticipating this decision, I put about 20 squid on Dennis Menchov at 66-1. Im no mathametician but I understand it would at least turn a profit.

Of course if I won I would gladly give up all that money in order to turn back the clock and have The Great One back, but life is life.

Don't see any reason why Lance can't get in shape for July. He probably fancies his chances now.

What the heck? He is 8-1 at best now and not even Alberto moves the odds like that.

Wiggins is 9-2 btw.

Great odds you got there Hitch for Menchov but do you know what odds Wiggins is now by any chance?

He was trading at 14/1 at the start of the year but he's now top priced at 9/2.

I was going to back him last week at 8's...but didn't!

Meh... probably post CAS announcement apathy but almost don't care about the Tour any more. I'm now torn between wanting Cadel to repeat, and playing the nationalist card and supporting Wiggins. Annoyingly, where I work has an internet filter on betting sights - what odds is Menchov? Still at 66-1? Great as it would be for Wiggins to win (for cycling's profile in Britain), I can't believe he is now the joint favourite

I've lost interest but I know I'll be watching.
I don't like the route and I was not excited about TDF 2012. In 2011 I took free days in work to watch crucial stages. This year I'll watch last hour of mountain stages at most.

I'm mostly sad about the fact I actually planned my vacation to fit into the July schedule. And I probably won't have time to watch the races in August, September and October.

ok now that we know contador won't ride :( i will give my opinion.

lo squalo will take it mark my words

as an attempt to a valid argument why he will take it: i believe he really improved his itting and that his climbing progressed a bit more like it has been doing for the last few years, since the route isn't insanely hard he won't have as much problems with his recovery like he had in the giro and with a couple of downhill finishes he may gain/limit his time pretty well.

Come on tell me, why is Alberto different than Ricco? I was a huge fan of Ricco, but he is a cheater, so he got what he deserved, same goes for Contador.

I can already see the "Best GT of 2012?" thread dominated by Vuelta votes :D

well the vuelta will most likely be an even bigger humiliation to every GC guy riding not named contador than the giro was so i guess most will just call it boring :p
