So Farrar is with Saxo now? And VandeVelde too? Contador? Armstrong? Gesink? Wiggins? Robbie Mac? Kreuziger?
Geez, no wonder they've won so much this year.

what i should have said is, if the schlecks didn't go down he would have kept riding, as they were on the front most of the day trying to bring the break back.

Any news about the time neutralization. I think Chavanel should get his time, win, and points but everything else should be set even. No points, no time losses. I am of course saying this because I am a Garmin fan and those hopes went out the window today.

I can understand your point. It is a bit pointless that if you neutralize a stage most of the riders come home together but some miss out due to bad luck.

I can understand why Cancellara stopped to start off with. What I cant understand is why he wanted with about 20k to go was a neuteralised stage. Why wasnt he happy with the sprinters going for it?

Presumably as a protest. Doesn't make much sense to protest a freak accident like spilled motorcycle oil of cause, but on the other hand the riders might not have had a complete picture at the time. Nonetheless I agree the sprint should have been fair game and I think it's sad the Hushovd became the victim.

Chavanel got the 25 points and the time - no other points awarded for the finish

petacchi should have kept green really in that case. another example of cycling shooting itself in the foot live in front of millions.

I think it's been said but...

This is a three week stage race not a one day classic. There was oil on the road from a motorbike - the road became virtually unrideable. It's got nothing to do with bike handling or cyclists being mentally soft.

It was IMO the right thing to allow the GC contenders to get back into the race. This is normal and one of the things I like about cycling. It is also normal and expected that the Yellow Jersey is the guy that speaks for the other riders on the road.

All is good. Great for Chavanel - an amazing story for him!

I expect to see some thrills and spills again tomorrow on the cobbles but they will race I am sure.

But some are saying these kind of stages need not to be included at all, as they are ALWAYS to dangerous and have no place in a grand tour. That is without any possible rain or oil, but just entirely. That is something with which I cannot agree

I don't think that the time is going to be neutralised, though given that the crash was caused by oil I agree it would be fair. In any case I hope he's all right, but the fact he finished so far back on a neutralized stage might mean he's been seriously hurt.

it is up to the directors to put whatever stages in they want, if the riders don't like it, don't sign on to race. should we have a neutralised descent of the tourmalet, that is quite dangerous?

But only because the real leader - Chavanel - is already wearing yellow. He doesn't actually have the jersey, it's just on loan from Chav.

but he wasn't on the podium and will not be leader of the competition in the publicity on the websites.

you need to remember that cycling is driven by sponsorship, things that happen like today alienate people from the sport and loses teams revenue. remember how many teams lost their main sponsor following the doping? while this isn't as bad, it isn't good either

F. Schleck's comment on the stage:

"There must have been something on the road, it was as slippery as a trout. Mechanics who stepped out of the team cars slipped and fell, as if they were walking on ice."

Well if you want justice then give the green to Thor, he would wear it without the crap. Actually Petacchi got really lucky with all this bull****.

I'm sorry if I hurt you eyes. It's pretty bad, but it's the website with the most complete description of the motorcycle incident.

Yeah, Thor got screwed.

He would have likely won Green if they had sprinted for second. Not only that, he likely would have had green pretty much locked up barring a crash. He'd have a 50 point lead on Cav, and the only sprinter who'd have been within 15 would have been McEwen.

Anyone know of any from retirees today?

A Belgian newspaper (HLN) seems to know that Farrar has retired with a broken elbow, but I haven't read any confirmation of that. Gesink has fractured ulna, but he'll start tomorrow.
