Van Garderen clearly is having a bad day: he isn't exactly a great climber but I don't think he's doing as much as we could expect from him.

Like I said, he has crashed twice, possible he's just hurting more than we thought.

He's a good TTer as has been mentioned many times, so what exactly is his problem here?

He is far from the best tter. He can limit his losses but 50k pan flat i dont see him excelling at really. PV had lots of steep hills and descents, people forget.

The average speed of Quintana on col de paillhères is 19.6 km/h. About 2 mins slower than Ullrich's record

Don't think Roger will be there when there are only 10 guys left.

Wouldn't be so sure about that...Porte's presence will give Mick Rogers extra incentive ;)

Quintana crashed 5 times in 3 days and he is flying up mountains like people predicted before the tour.

TJVG simply is overrated as a climber.

I wonder where our buddy Jason Mercier is. . . :p

He must be insane. No way will Costa ever be able to follow the top 5 climbers here.
Probably, but now that I think about it I do see where he's coming from. It's likely he's betting on a repeat of the Verbier in '12. The final climb isn't too different and Sky already let go a Movistar who's better rated in high mountains than him.

But of course the competition wasn't nearly the same.

If Quintana and Rolland work together, they have a chance. If they don't then I think it's game over.

Paul sharing some of the pacemaking with Phil with his play-by-play at the start of the climb.
