How much cyclists may a small nation like Slovenia field?
Well, in the first place, Sagan is Slovak, not Slovenian. This is common problem with american people that cannot differ between our countries.
And unfortunately, we can have only 1 cyclist there. Which is very nice, when some african countries with no name cyclist will have 3 of them, who very possibly will not even finish the race. IMO, the rules are very badly formed, that there is combination of ranking in world tour for some number of cyclist, and there is also som cyclist for points in continental ranking, which is pretty easy to earn in Africa e.g.. Same with world championchips. It's good that UCI tries to nominate as many countries as possible, as that is motto of olympics, however to allow country with 3rd or 4th class cyclist have 3 of them at olympics, and country with on world start and 2 other very decent cyclist to have only one is in my opinion ridiculous. Slovakia, e.g. had 3 cyclist at olympics in beijing although there were any in the world pro tour in the qualify year. Only the next year, the year of olympics came Velits brothers to pro tour. To qualify, they had earnt the needed points in continental tour for some south african continental team. And even funnier, they did not take part in the olympics, even Peter Velits has had pretty nice results at TDF that year, because stupid slovak cycling union had nominated others and thay said, that Velits would have be tired anyway, so they nominated nearly retired or overburnt cyclist from the past.
