I'm more familiar with his name than his palmares, but just because of his name I've hopped on the TTT fan train and hope he can get it done!

And the wombat too, he seems to be taking his time getting going though this year, don't see (m)any more opportunities for him in the TDU given the upcoming climbs.

The same finish I watched. Take a look at the photo finish, despite Welsford being forced to power down, he still manages a very close third, whereas Brennan with a clear path should've been further in front if his speed was superior.

Brennan was clearly finishing faster than anyone else, but badly positioned and started much further behind. You can't say who was potentially quickest here, as Welsford didn't seem to have the chance to open up.

Gudmestad getting relegated likely means he didn't just sit up and let others pass but likely continued sprinting a bit which he is known to do in the past. Got a yellow card for it too so we'll see if he quits that behaviour.

i assumed the issue was dropping back near van poppel rather than getting out of the way

From what I understand, it was because of the celebration.
Still... getting relegated to 154th out of 138 seems a bit harsh!

So the actual climb is basically 4.8km at 7.5%.
Really should be hard enough to at least get an elite group clear if they go for it. Headwind on latter, less steep part doesn't help tho.
