Not sure who the Aussie commentator is (might be Robbie McEwen), and he just said the hottest temp he ever raced in was 52C. It should come as no surprise that riders were dropping like flies of heat stroke. Thankfully it's only 32C where they are racing today...

48km to go and gap has shrunk to 1:33s

Plapp dropped back and assumed domestique duties by collecting water bottles for his teammates, Novak was dropped, so now there is a break of only two.

EDIT: Actually Plapp just collected water bottles and isn't dropping back to the peloton, so now he's riding around with a jersey full of water bottles, not sure what his plan is with all that extra weight. :tearsofjoy:

A new break has formed - Romo, Buitrago, Cepeda, Glivar, and Stannard had no more to give, but hat's off to him for having hung on for so long.

At last Brennan gets a win!

Except for the kangaroo incident this was a pretty good ending to this year's edition of the TDU, I thought. And to all the riders who crashed and sustained injuries this week- heal well!

Quite funny to see some kangaroos in the race coverage. Quite common to see them in sports events in Oz which are conducted in countryside areas.

Kangaroos outnumber humans in Australia by roughly 2 to 1. Just hope I never see those collide with a fast moving peloton. Would be carnage.

I see a kangaroo almost took out Vine. Not the smartest animals. Have a tendency to run towards hazards rather than away. Vine was lucky.

Yeah, Vine was saying in post-race interview that kangaroos are the biggest danger on Aussie roads for cyclists. And Brennan said he got smacked by the kangaroo, so he had actual contact with the cute but not so clever marsupial, didn't stop him from winning though.

Michael Leonard lost 3 minutes and his 7th spot on GC. That seems pretty silly - especially if it was because it was him they made chase the break at some point.

Real Chris Harper attacks!

And now Jefferson Cepeda attacks.
The Movistar one... someone needs to tell Mielke that you need to specify when they're both in a race...
the EF one is Alexander Cepeda, so there actually is no need to. At least if he uses the right name for him
